Dickens in Ohio
Devised and performed by Roger Jerome Thursday, April 7, 2011 – 10:00 AM
A Christmas Carol author Charles Dickens came to America to experience "the Republic of my imagination" and found Ohio was "all that America had been, is and would be". In a unique forty-five minute one-man show, veteran performer Roger Jerome describes Dickens' travels from Cincinnati to Columbus via Lebanon, then on to Upper Sandusky, Tiffin and Sandusky City on Lake Erie. A rich and succinct portrait of Ohio in the 1840's, this program covers most of Dickens' experiences with the added bonus of nineteen tracks of early American music and vignettes of ten of the individuals Dickens met along the way including George Washington Putnam, Mayor Joshua Mills and the Choctaw Chief Pitchlynn. Living now in Gallipolis but hailing from England, Jerome is a member of the Cleveland branch of the Dickens Fellowship and is particularly interested in the interaction the writer had with the New World. Illuminating Ohio Educational Standards, DICKENS in OHIO is a must for all students studying the history of our state.
