The Ritz at 100 – A Legacy in Light
The historic Ritz Theatre, located along the banks of the Sandusky River in downtown Tiffin and beautifully restored in 1998, is today a thriving performing arts center hosting more than 60 events annually. Its diverse programming includes national headliners, comedy, dance, theater, community, educational events and more.
The Ritz is proud to announce the launch of its new capital campaign, The Ritz at 100 – A Legacy in Light, an ambitious initiative designed to preserve, enhance and secure the future of one of Tiffin’s most treasured landmarks. As the theatre approaches its 100th anniversary in December 2028, the campaign will support critical facility improvements, modernization efforts and long-term sustainability measures—ensuring that future generations can continue to experience the magic of live entertainment, film and community gatherings at The Ritz.
For nearly a century, The Ritz Theatre has served as a cultural cornerstone for the region, welcoming audiences of all ages through performances, concerts, films, educational programming and special events. This campaign both honors that remarkable legacy and prepares the theatre for its next century of service. Planned improvements include enhanced audience amenities, updated technology, preservation of historic features, accessibility upgrades and expanded opportunities for arts education and community engagement.
Campaign leaders expressed strong enthusiasm for this transformational effort. Co-chair Celinda Scherger said, “The Ritz Theatre enriches our community through accessible, high-quality entertainment, education and engagement. Its diverse programming brings people together, strengthens community pride, supports the local economy and extends its impact far beyond Tiffin.”
Co-chair Jeff Stockner added, “The Ritz Theatre is more than a historic building—it is a gathering place where generations have come together to experience the joy of live performance, film, music and youth programming. It offers world-class cultural experiences close to home while preserving the personal connections and shared memories that make our community so special.”
Executive Director Michael Strong noted, “This capital campaign will provide long-term stability for the organization and position The Ritz for a strong future. As we approach our 100th anniversary, we have an extraordinary opportunity to honor our history, celebrate our progress, and set the stage for the next century of service.”
The Ritz Theatre’s strong financial momentum provides a solid foundation for the campaign. In 2023–2024, The Ritz generated $970,771 in earned operating revenue through ticket sales, theatre rentals, sponsorships, concessions and advertising—covering approximately 70 percent of annual operating expenses. With grants, contributions and other support, total revenue reached $1,283,413. Through disciplined stewardship, strategic programming and strengthened internal controls, long-term debt has been reduced from $2.7 million in 2004 to less than $240,000 today. In addition, more than $715,000 is currently held in an endowment managed by the Tiffin Community Foundation, further strengthening The Ritz’s long-term stability.
With a campaign goal of $1 million, The Ritz at 100 – A Legacy in Light will focus on capital improvements, endowment growth and operational strength. Upon successful completion, The Ritz aims to achieve a sustainable break-even operating model, double its endowment, eliminate or significantly reduce remaining debt and expand both programming and educational outreach.
As an essential cultural, educational and economic hub for Northwest Ohio, The Ritz Theatre remains a source of pride for Tiffin and the surrounding region.
