To Kill a Mockingbird

From the Book by Harper Lee
Dramatized by Christopher Sergel

November 3, 2019 – 2:00 PM

Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird opens in a sleepy Alabama town in the midst of the Great Depression, where Scout and her brother, Jem, live with their widowed father, Atticus Finch. The facade of the seemingly peaceful town begins to crack when a young black man is accused of a terrible crime. Timeless and lingering, this hard-hitting work explores prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right.

The Producers
The Mel Brooks Musical

February 7, 8 & 15, 2020 – 7:30 PM
February 16, 2020 – 2:00 PM

Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film. Now, as a big Broadway musical, The Producers once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit!
Adults $15, Students $10 – EV, MS, RP
(Tentative audition dates: December 16 & 17, 2019)

The Robber Bridegroom

Book and Lyrics by Alfred Uhry
Music by Robert Waldman
(An event in The National Theatre at The Ritz)
May 8, 9 & 16, 2020 – 7:30 PM
May 17, 2020- 2:00 PM

A rousing, bawdy Southern fairy tale from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Driving Miss Daisy! The score is meant to be played by a small band onstage – and it’s one of the only genuine bluegrass scores ever heard in a Broadway musical. Set in 18th-century Mississippi, the show follows Jamie Lockhart, a rascally robber of the woods, as he courts Rosamund, the only daughter of the richest planter in the country. The proceedings go awry, however, thanks to a case of double-mistaken identity.

Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.
