A Heidelberg Christmas

Heidelberg University will combine their 130th performance of Handel’s Messiah with a playful recreation of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Their program will consist of two parts: in the first, the entire School of Music & Theatre will collaborate to reimagine the wonder and beauty of Tchaikovsky’s festive ballet. Delight in the Mouse King entrance and ensuing battle on stage with theatrical puppets and accompanied by a duel between the Symphonic and Jazz bands. Be transported into a magical land as the Concert Choir sings Eric Whitacre’s Glow. Experience an updated version of Tchaikovsky’s Chocolat as the Hei-Notes tap us all to Candy Land. Chuckle with us as the sugar plum fairies get a make-over…can you imagine tubas in tutus? Act two features  Messiah arias and choruses, which are so important for the Advent and Christmas seasons, including the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
